●As commonly referenced in the industry, a type of low-grade waterborne aluminum pigment—known as passivated aluminum paste or powder—is produced by incorporating passivators into solvent-based aluminum pigment, thereby forming a thin passivation layer on its surface. This treatment imparts hydrophilic properties to the pigment; however, the outer passivation film is inherently brittle and boasts only a short shelf life. This explains why passivated aluminum pigment requires immediate use: its manufacturing process renders long-term storage impractical. Furthermore, despite its water-compatible application, passivated aluminum pigment is not environmentally friendly, as it remains a solvent-based product in essence.
